Welcome to Leaning Barn Studio!
If you are looking for local scenes that capture the beauty of the tri-state area, you've come to the right place. I produce my photos in small batches and hand-sign each one. My goal is to produce photographs that are unlike the standard mass-produced gift shop photos I often see when traveling, while still creating something you would want to put on your wall. Art needs an audience!
This webpage is under construction right now, as I transition from "Shane Marshall Photography" to "Leaning Barn Studio." Many of the photos will still have the old watermarking. That's okay--I'm Shane, and they are my photos, right?
You can keep up with what I'm doing with photography over at Facebook at Leaning Barn Studio.
My Philosophy
"Finding the Perfection in Imperfection" captures what I am trying to do with much of photography. Whether taking a photograph of a barn on a quiet back road or a rusting pump at an abandoned gas station, I want to capture the rust, the warping, the peeling. While many of the barns I photograph are not in the best of shape anymore, I feel like they have something to say to us.
Most of my photos have one focal point. A rusty old truck. A tree emerging from the fog. While I try to invite the viewer in to the photo, I also try to guide the reader to be able to see what I saw in that moment.
My photos are primarily from Branch County, Michigan, Hillsdale County, Michigan, Steuben County, Indiana, and Williams County, Ohio. However, I also have photos from other areas, such as Michigan's Upper Peninsula and Holmes County, Ohio. Please follow the menus under "Sample Photos" to see examples of my work. Works in progress are often shared on the Leaning Barn Studio Facebook page.
